Pros and Cons to Dating in your 30’s
September 8, 2007
Now more than ever people are choosing to focus on their careers first and their personal lives second. Consequently, there’s an abundance of 30-something’s on the dating scene. Here’s some pros and cons to dating in your 30’s.
Pros:
- Experience — By the time you’ve reached your 30’s you’ve got a good amount of experience under your belt. You know how to handle life’s ups and downs, and you have a good understanding of how a relationship should be. Therefore, you are more skilled at knowing what kind of person could be your match, and what kind would not.
- Financial Security — Since you’ve been forging your career path for a few years, you’ve probably become more finacially secure. This allows you more independence in the dating world. You don’t have to rely on a significant other to foot the bills or take care of you..
- Confidence — As you grow older, you become more comfortable in your own skin. You’ve learned to accept yourself and not always care about what other people think of you.
Cons:
- Higher Expectations — Since you’ve grown into your own, you most likely have a preconcieved idea of what you are looking for in a partner. You are aware of what you’re looking for in a dating experience and are not impressed with anything that falls short of those expectations.
- Set in Ways — If you’ve been living on your own for a while, you’ve probably developed your own set of routines and are less willing to change for someone else.
- Social Insecurity — Dating in your 30’s can sometimes seem daunting because many people think that the dating scene is mostly just made up of those that are younger than you. However, that could not be farther from the truth these days. One look around and you can see that dating now spans all generations!
